  • Message to Parents - Coronavirus Update

    Updated June 4, 2020

    Dear Camp Families,

We know that many of you have been holding out hope that we would be able to operate this summer.  We very much wanted to be able to provide a safe and nurturing environment for your wonderful children.  Despite careful planning and best intentions, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel Tenacre Day Camp and Specialty Camps for the summer of 2020. This has been a humbling experience for us as a program.  We are heartbroken, not only because we love what we do, but because we love our campers, families, and staff!

Why did we make the decision to close?
Over the past few weeks, we tried to create a modified camp program that would meet the CDC guidance.  We consulted with the Wellesley Health Department, school administration, camp leadership staff, camp peers, and used guidance from the CDC and American Camp Association (ACA).  At the very last moment, the state of Massachusetts released their guidance on June 1stMassachusetts is one of the states that has been hit harder by the virus, and we believe this to be why the state governmental guidance is more strict than the CDC and ACA guidance.

The recent set of expectations provided by our state are restrictive and limiting in ways that we feel make it impossible for us to run our camp program in the best service of our campers and our staff. While we do believe that closing camp is the right decision on behalf of our campers, families, and staff in our community, it doesn't make it any easier to accept. We are sorry that this is the outcome of our planning.

What will happen to my deposit?
A full credit of your deposit/payment paid for this summer will be applied to your account to be used for summer 2021. There is no action needed by you to roll your deposit/payment forward to next summer.  By rolling your deposit/payment, you are helping camp with already incurred costs, and you will have an early opportunity to submit your camper’s registration for next summer at 2020 rates.

What do I need to do to get a refund?
Requests for a full refund must be made by filling out our REFUND REQUEST FORM.  Please email us for the form.

    Alternative Programming
We are exploring opportunities to provide alternative programs as state and local guidelines allow, and that we feel we can properly staff.

    Final Thoughts

No words can properly convey our appreciation for the patience you have granted us. We are with you in experiencing the ache and loss of this summer.  The really tough decision to cancel is out of a sense of love and safety for the children and staff that go to camp.  It helps us to know that we are going to be back together next summer to have a lot of fun!

Thank you for your trust in us. And thank you for supporting our decision. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us. In the meantime, be safe, be well, and we look forward to welcoming your children back to Tenacre in 2021!

With gratitude for our camp community,

    Libby, Barb and Marcie

Welcome

We are CLOSED for Summer 2020. The really tough decision to cancel is out of a sense of love and safety for the children and staff that go to camp.  It helps us to know that we are going to be back together next summer to have a lot of fun!

We are located in Wellesley, and the camp is situated in a friendly, caring, elementary school setting. The foundation of our success is the quality of our staff, a supportive and nurturing environment, and a welcoming place where each child belongs. The administration and staff strive to make every child feel comfortable and safe in a fun camp setting. Founded in 1973, the camp’s noncompetitive environment fosters self-esteem and individual accomplishments. We hope that your family will join our great camp this season!

In addition to our quality Day Camp for children ages 3-12, Tenacre also offers a variety of other ways your children will be enriched by offering June & August Swimming LessonsRising Star Sports, and One-Week Specialty Camps. A great way to end the summer is our Week 9 Day Camp!

2 Consecutive Weeks

Our 2 consecutive week requirement applies to these following camp weeks:

We offer flexibility to our families; campers sign up for any 2 consecutive weeks, and then can add any single weeks before and after the 2-week minimum is met. Your child can attend one of our Specialty Camps (full day option) to meet the 2 consecutive week requirement in the Day Camp program.

NOTE: Signing up for Rising Star Sports does not meet the requirement for 2 consecutive weeks in Day Camp.
