Specialty Camps: 3rd through 6th Grade

Our two-week Specialty Camps offer programs for a wide variety of interests that campers might have. Specialty Camps are offered to campers entering 3rd through 6th grade.

While participating in Specialty Camp, campers spend approximately half of their day in specialty based programming, and half of the day participating in traditional camp activities. Some traditional camp activities we offer include art, indoor sports, nature, music, ropes/challenge course, team sports, crafts, theater arts, field sports, clay, newcomb, kickball, archery, and more. Just like Full Day camp, each camper in Specialty Camp will have time in the pool.

  • Session 1 - Visual Arts

    In this immersive two-week visual arts program, you'll explore the fundamental skills that every great artist masters! You'll start by diving into the world of drawing, learning techniques like shading, perspective, and proportion that bring your sketches to life. Whether you're capturing realistic portraits, designing imaginative characters, or sketching dynamic landscapes, you'll discover how to see the world through an artist's eyes and translate what you see onto paper.

    But drawing is just the beginning! You'll venture into the vibrant realm of painting! From watercolors that blend and flow to acrylics that burst with vibrant energy, you'll learn color theory, brush techniques, and composition secrets. 

    By the end of this two-week journey, you'll have built a stunning portfolio that showcases your developing skills and creative vision. Your artistic adventure starts here. let's make something beautiful!
  • Session 2 - Dungeons and Dragons

    Ready to embark on a legendary adventure where your imagination is your most powerful tool? At Dungeons & Dragons camp, you'll step into a world of magic, mystery, and endless possibilities! Whether you're battling fearsome dragons, solving ancient riddles, or negotiating with mischievous goblins, every choice you make will shape your story. You'll create your own unique hero and watch them come to life through collaborative storytelling.

    But being a great adventurer takes more than luck! You'll master the art of role-playing, learn strategic thinking, and discover how teamwork can overcome any challenge. Along the way, you'll design custom character sheets, craft props, and build the skills that make D&D sessions legendary. By the end of camp, you'll have conquered quests, forged friendships with your fellow adventurers, and gained the confidence to continue your tabletop gaming journey.   • Session 3 - Pop Star Camp

    Let’s explore what it takes to become a chart-topping artist! From writing heartfelt lyrics that tell your story to designing album covers that capture your unique style, you'll experience every aspect of pop stardom. In the first week, you'll dive into the art of songwriting and learn the performance skills that turn songs into experiences. Whether you're penning a powerful ballad or a track that makes everyone want to dance, you'll find your signature sound. In the second week, you’ll study some of your favorite pop icons’ hits and performances, culminating in your own concert on the final day of the session. This is your moment to shine!
  • Session 4 - Theater

    Instructor: Leah Fine, Wellesley Public Schools

    Theater is a great venue for expression and increased self-confidence! Through improvisational games and activities, we will create a cabaret of songs, scenes, and dances. Students will also work together to create text, props, costumes, and small set pieces for their final play. Let’s craft a show together!

  • Session 1 - Woodworking

    Instructor: Francesca Bessey, Tenacre Country Day School

    Total Spaces Available: 9

    Join us in our woodshop! During the two-week session, campers will learn the basics of woodworking while making wooden games and puzzles like peg solitaire, tic-tac-toe and mini plinko. (Exact projects will depend on material availability and camper interest.) Campers will craft each piece from start to finish, including planning, measuring, cutting, assembling and finishing. Along the way, they will gain experience with a variety of hand and powered tools, including hammers, screwdrivers, measuring tools, drills, sanders, saws, as well as painting and staining techniques. They will also have the opportunity to use Tenacre's laser cutter to craft decorative elements for their projects. Throughout camp, strong emphasis will be placed on shop safety and understanding the structural properties of wood that make it unique as a building material. Come discover the joys of working with wood and making fun projects that are yours to keep and built to last!
  • Session 2 - Video Production

    Instructor: Tenacre Tech Department, Tenacre Country Day School

    Lights, Camera, Action! Ready to step behind the camera and discover what it takes to shoot and edit your own short movies? You'll learn how to frame the perfect shot, build out a shot list to run your time on set, and direct actors who bring your scenes to life. Whether you're filming an action-packed adventure short, a hilarious comedy bit, or a mini documentary, you'll master the techniques that bring great ideas to the screen!

    But the magic doesn't stop when filming wraps! You'll dive into the editing suite using accessible software like iMovie, where you'll piece together your footage, learn editing techniques, and layer in music and sound effects that set the mood of your scenes. From storyboarding your vision to creating eye-catching title sequences, you'll build the skills that bring films to life. By the end of camp, you'll have learned enough to premiere an original short film. Grab your camera and let's start shooting!
  • Session 3 - Robotics

    Instructor: Tenacre Tech Department, Tenacre Country Day School

    In Robotics, you'll dive into the exciting world of LEGO SPIKE Prime to bring your mechanical creations to life! You'll start as a rookie robot engineer and transform into a master builder and programmer through hands-on challenges that get more thrilling with each build.

    Want to program a robot that can explore distant planets? How about designing a rescue bot that can navigate through tricky terrain? Or maybe you'd rather create a robot that can plant a garden or star in its own dance production? You'll do all this and more as you learn to build robots that can work independently, perform precise tasks, and even team up with other robots to tackle bigger challenges.

    Get ready to unleash your creativity as you combine the precision of programming with the excitement of building to create robots that can change the world one block at a time!
  • Session 4 - Young Architects

    Instructor: Tenacre Tech Department, Tenacre Country Day School

    Total Spaces Available: 12

    Step into the world of architecture and design! In this creative, hands-on program, campers will become junior architects as they plan, design, and build imaginative structures for unique clients and challenges. From designing a treehouse for adventurous explorers to creating a futuristic playground for a space traveler, each project will inspire campers to think big and solve real-world building challenges.

    Along the way, campers will learn about structural design, scale and proportion, drafting, and the basics of construction and materials. They’ll experiment with different building techniques and bring their ideas to life using a variety of tools and materials. Grab your blueprints and let’s build!

  • Counselor to Camper Ratio

    The counselor to camper ratio for our specialty camps is 1 counselor for every 5 campers. The group staff is comprised of a specialty instructor with vast knowledge and teaching experience, along with group counselors to help the instructor during specialty activity periods. The group counselors travel with the group throughout the day to their traditional camp activity periods as well.

  • Theme Weeks

    Each week we have a special theme and campers can dress up on Fridays if they choose.  Our "Fun Friday" activities are created around the weekly themes.
