Grade 6 hosts immigrant panel discussion as part of social studies unit

Sixth graders hosted their annual immigrant panel discussion this morning, concluding a social studies unit on immigration and urbanization. Students invited members of their families who have immigrated to the United States to participate in a panel discussion and share their “coming to America” stories. This year's panel reflected global diversity, with representatives from six different countries: Haiti, China, Ireland, Brazil, Uganda, and England. The breadth of experiences underscores the goals of the sixth-grade social studies unit to understand migration as a fundamental aspect of the American experience.
