Welcome to Tenacre Country Day School! As I embark upon my first year as Tenacre’s head of school, I hope you will visit our campus and discover all of the wonderful things I have learned about Tenacre—our welcoming community including , dedicated teachers, curious students, supportive families and our accomplished alumni.
We are so proud of our mission statement: Tenacre nurtures and challenges each child, every day. This statement permeates everything we do at Tenacre—from our academic program to social development to leadership training to community-building. Tenacre’s mission statement is a real strength of our school. It allows us to make the best of each student, no matter who he or she is.
Our academic program creates a strong base for our students. This is not a one-size fits all education. Our team teaching allows us to meet the needs of each student and provide the appropriate amount of nurture and challenge. Special subjects--science, Spanish, technology, music, art, library, and physical education—play an important role in Tenacre’s program and start in pre-kindergarten.
Tenacre has so many wonderful traditions for students to experience. Our youngest and oldest students embrace the Big Friend/Little Friend program, in which pre-kindergartners/fourth graders, kindergartners/fifth graders, and first/sixth graders spend time reading together or working on craft projects. The whole community eagerly anticipates the annual Apple Pie Run, a fun race that meanders through the campus and ends in the school’s apple orchard. And Tenacre offers a strong tradition of community service, providing opportunities for every student to get involved. These are just a few of the many traditions that enrich our students’ experience at Tenacre.
I hope you will visit Tenacre and get to know the community as I have. I feel fortunate to have inherited such a strong school and I look forward to maintaining longtime traditions, while pushing Tenacre into a more contemporary version of itself. Come join us!
