COVID-19 Information: Job offers for summer staff positions at Tenacre are fully conditional on the Summer 2022 season happening as planned!  Should COVID-19 interfere with camp operations, there may be a need to reduce/let go of staff, particularly in the event that we are not able to run programming.  As such, we are currently hiring and planning camp with the guidance that has been released to-date and are very confident that we will run camp this year.
Our busiest weeks of the summer are June 27-August 5, and some of our staff head back to school in August.  For these reasons, we have a bit of flexibility and can hire some staff for less than 8 weeks. For example, if you have another job/internship or summer course that is taking place at the beginning of the summer, we can possibly hire you to work in August.

Who works at Tenacre?

Tenacre Day Camp counselors are dedicated, fun, enthusiastic, caring, and dependable people. Our staff is composed of approximately 100 teaching professionals and college students, who serve as strong leaders and positive role models.  All staff are at least 18 years of age, and most staff have completed one year of college or more. Our Activity Specialists are college graduates and many of them teach during the school year. We are proud to say that we have a high rate of staff return each year.

Where do most staff come from?

Our staff mostly live within a short driving distance from camp. They live in Wellesley and nearby towns within a 30 - 45 minute drive.

What is a Typical Day?

8:00AM - 8:25AM Morning Arrival
8:30AM Morning Meeting and Morning Rally
8:50AM - 1:00PM Half Day Activities
8:50AM - 3:15PM Full Day Activities

The Full Day and Half Day program includes a snack and lunch time. Camp provides a mid-morning nut-free snack. Campers and staff either can bring their own lunch, or purchase lunch from Camp by the week.

Each day includes a variety of activities (i.e. sports, crafts, story time, music, music & movement, yoga, gaga ball, and choice periods for the older campers).  Every camper has a swimming lesson every day.

Aftercamp child care is available until 6:00PM Monday through Thursday, and until 5:15PM Friday.

Dress Code

A dress code is enforced for professionalism. The Staff T-Shirt that you are given during staff training must be worn EVERY MONDAY. All staff members receive a staff ID tag with a lanyard, and this must be worn every day. Campers and staff are required to wear a close-toed sneaker at all times.  Lifeguards must wear sneakers at arrival and dismissal, and footwear when leaving the pool deck. As a guide, all shorts should be at least fingertip-length when your hands are at your side. More information about dress code will be outlined in your staff handbook and reviewed during staff training.

Camper Age Staff to Camper Ratio
3 Year Olds 1:4
4 Year Olds 1:5
Entering K - 2nd Grade 1:5
Entering 3rd Grade 1:8
Entering 4th - 6th Grade 1:10

In calculating actual ratios, "staff" includes counselors and activity heads. “Floater” staff are hired to float into groups when counselors are absent.
Tenacre must meet the minimum ratios for recreational camps in Massachusetts. The state sanitary code has the following requirement for ratio of Counselors to Campers. The camp must have 1:10 for campers 7 years and older, and 1:5 for campers younger than 7.
