Sexual Abuse and Gender Relationships have been prominent topics in the news over the past year. Case in point is the recent publicity regarding the United States women’s gymnastics team and local athlete Ali Raisman. While most of our children may not have heard of these terms or stories, many have and many are probably wondering what they mean and why they are being discussed.

What, if anything, should elementary schools and parents with elementary school children be doing in response? Some educators believe that waiting until middle school or high school to address this topic it too late, and that perceptions that ultimately affect behavior are formed in the younger years.
