Come be an engineer for the morning! Using Unified Problem Solving (UPS) -- a template Tenacre has developed to teach children how to solve academic problems -- 1st and 2nd grade students will complete a variety of engineering challenges. Each Science Saturday session is a separate unit taught by either Tenacre science teacher Frantz Vilmenay or Tenacre teacher and camp instructor McKenna Daly. Students will take home their creations after each class.Sept. 9: Gravity Go-Carts
Learn about gravity, friction, and motion as you engineer a vehicle using an index card, straws, tape, and a simple spool.Sept. 16: Tall Towers
Using only newspaper and tape, see how tall you can engineer a freestanding tower. Students will design, build, test, decorate, and measure their structure.
Sept. 23: Building Bridges
You will engineer a popsicle stick bridge in this dynamic session. Students will plan, build, and test your bridge to see how much weight it will hold. You don't want to miss this class!
All classes will be held 9:00–10:30 a.m. in Tenacre’s state-of-the-art science center.
Each class is $40; all three classes are $110.
