Posted: 11/12/2009
Judith Moffatt is a children's book author and illustrator who specializes in cut paper illustration. Judith visited Tenacre and gave an assembly to students on Nov. 11. After a reception in her honor, Ms. Moffatt worked with fourth and sixth grade students in art class. Ms. Moffatt has loved paper since she was a child, when her father would bring home paper samples from his job at a printing company. In 1990, she illustrated her first book in 3-dimensional cut paper style. She enjoys watching children attempt to reach into a page, pluck out an object, or feel the texture. She recently began teaching children's book illustration and cut paper workshops at the Rhode Island School of Design. She has received many international awards for her work, including the American Pick of the List selection, the Children's Book of the Month Club main selection, and the Oppenheim Best Book Gold Award.  She also has a featured piece in Highlights magazine ever month. Judith and her husband live in Medway, Massachusetts.
