Nursing Staff
The Nursing Staff at Tenacre consists of one part-time employee, Mary Torrence. When the nurse is not on school grounds, two other staff members have been trained in First Aid to take care of children as needed. The Nursing Staff maintains a safe school environment by:
- Providing basic first aid for illness and injury
- Educating staff, students, and parents about safe practices
- Collaborating with other school professionals, parents, and caregivers to meet the health needs of each child
Nut Policy
Tenacre attempts to balance the needs of each individual and provide a safe and inclusive environment for all of our students. With the increasing rate of peanut/nut allergies among children, it was decided to adopt the following policy:
Tenacre does not allow items on campus that contain peanuts or tree nuts. This includes food prepared in our kitchen, purchased from vendors, or brought to school by members of our community. In addition, every effort is to be made to avoid any cross contamination, hidden allergens, or indirect exposure in foods at school, on field trips, and in arts and crafts projects.
Strep Throat Policy
Tenacre's policy for strep throat requires that a child stay home for 48 hours after starting an antibiotic. After a child has been on antibiotics, he/she may return to school. A child must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to Tenacre.
Lice
Head lice infestation represents one of the most common communicable childhood conditions. If lice or nits are discovered during the school day, a parent will be called and the child will be sent home for treatment. The child may not return to school until the nits and lice are removed.
Parents and staff are notified of cases in their respective classes. A child must be checked upon his or her return to school. Parents must continue to check the child at home for 14 days.
