Tenacre's Strategic Plan
The foundation of a Tenacre education remains quality, quality defined by academic accomplishment, dedicated and enthusiastic teachers and learners, a balance to nurture and challenge each child’s academic, emotional and social development, a commitment to small classes, and a commitment to promoting diversity and community in support of respect for one’s self and others.
Tenacre’s success and growth have happened by design, not chance. Successful schools engage in continuous improvement, constantly asking themselves “how can we ensure a quality education for our students?” Periodically throughout its history, Tenacre has formalized this process of inquiry, often bringing together faculty, staff, trustees, parents, and alumni to focus on the essential question of quality and using their collective wisdom to craft a strategic plan for the future. A strategic plan must be both things—strategic and a plan. It must identify those areas where the school MUST focus its time, talent and resources to ensure a quality education. It must make strategic choices about how to achieve the vision for quality, and specifically, how to implement these strategies over a period of three to five years.
The last time Tenacre undertook such a process was in the 1993-94 school year. Many of the recommendations from that plan have been enacted, such as the movement to two-full time teachers in each homeroom, the construction of a new library and gymnasium, the elimination of Latin from the curriculum and the inclusion of Spanish, and the increased funding for staff professional development and graduate study.
Last year, Tenacre’s Board of Trustees has engaged in strategic planning. We are anxious to share with the community our ideas and vision for Tenacre’s future.
The plan reaffirms certain abiding principles that have guided the School since its founding, yet remain highly relevant today. We hope you will read about these exciting goals and share in our excitement.
