Cash Gifts
Most gifts to Tenacre are cash contributions, for which donors receive tax benefits if they itemize their deductions. Checks should be made payable to Tenacre Country Day School and sent directly to the Development Office.
Pledges
Pledges, signed and in writing, are accepted for any contribution to the school. Annual Fund pledges are payable by June 30th. Reminders are sent from the Development Office.
Charge Your Gift
Tenacre offers the convenience of charging your gift on your MasterCard or Visa. Unfortunately, we do not accept American Express. In order to process the gift, we need the card number, expiration date and name as it appears on the card. This is a great way to work on those frequent flyer miles!
Gifts of Securities
A gift of appreciated securities, held for more than one year, may provide a greater tax advantage than a gift of cash. Capital gains on the appreciation are avoided, and you receive a tax deduction for the stock's fair market value. Securities will be valued at the average of the high and low trading prices on the day the gift is transferred to Tenacre.
Matching Gifts
More than 1,500 companies will match or multiply donations from their employees (in some cases, an employees' spouse). You should contact your employer's personnel office to determine whether your company participates in a matching gift program and to request the necessary forms. Your company might also participate in on-line processing of matching gifts, go to www.easymatch.com to see if your employer is listed.
Gifts-In-Kind
Contributions of tangible personal property may offer you an immediate tax deduction. The amount of deduction depends on whether the gift relates directly to Tenacre's educational activities and purposes. All gifts-in-kind to the school will be credited on the basis of appraised value provided by the donor (or fair market value if an appraised value is not provided.) Gifts-in-kind include donations of art, equipment, rare books, real estate and similar non-monetary contributions. Tenacre reserves the right to preview the condition of the gift before accepting it.
Deferred Gifts and Bequests
Bequest gifts are lasting investments in the future of Tenacre. Donors may find they can make a more substantial gift to Tenacre through a deferred gift than through an outright contribution. Usually deferred gifts are trust funds that generate income paid to the donor during his or her lifetime, with the principal going to the school after the donor's death. Donors receive full tax benefits for their contributions thereby enhancing their own financial situation. Bequests that are realized and consistent with the school's goals will be counted in the fiscal year in which they are given.
Memorial and Honorary Gifts
Gifts may be made in memory of an individual who has passed away or specified to honor a member of your family or the School's family.
