Tenacre’s approach to Physical Education is for children to have the opportunity to enjoy moving and playing, to develop motor skills, and to learn about, practice, and appreciate being physically fit. The primary goals are for each child to feel good about his or her progress and to enjoy being active. We build positive attitudes about physical activity, encourage good habits for lifelong physical health, and help students develop an understanding of the benefits of fitness, good nutrition, and safety.

Children in Grades One and Two learn and practice sports-related skills in fun and creative ways. Many small-sided, active games give children ample opportunity to progress.

In Third and Fourth Grade this approach continues, however, students also focus more intently on specific sports and have some intramural experiences within their class.

Fifth and Sixth Graders have an interscholastic program in which they compete with other area independent schools. We emphasize cooperation, sportsmanship, cardiovascular fitness, equal playing time, and respect for all.
